"Stonewall" Jackson

One of the most famous generals of the American Civil War, Thomas Jonathan Jackson was called "my right arm" by Confederate General Robert E. Lee. During the first Battle of Bull Run, or Manassas, Jackson's brigade faced overwhelming odds. General Barnard E. Bee, seeing Jackson's line holding firm, said, "There is Jackson standing like a stone wall." Jackson was accidentally shot by his own troops at the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863 and died ten days later.
