September 6-7, 2008 (10am-4pm) Revolutionary War
Reenactment! See how Charlotteans defended their independence when
Cornwallis came through the area! On Saturday, reenactors will fight
the Battle of Charlotte, which originally occurred at the corner of
Trade and Tryon Streets. Sunday will feature the Battle of McIntyre
Farm, which took place a few miles from Latta, off Beatties Ford Road.
Visitors can shop with period sutlers, see the soldier camps, enjoy numerous
demonstrations, and take in a hot meal with the food vendor! Admission
is $7 per person, ages 5 and under are free.
September 17, 2008 (10am-4pm) Fall Homeschool Day
Living history day set aside for homeschoolers of all ages. See period
demonstrations, tour the plantation, make crafts, and much more!
Admission is $5 per person, ages 4 and under free.
September 19-20, 2008 Civil War Kids Campover
Soldiers who graduated from the summer Civil War Children's Camps can return
to experience a night as a real soldier. Campers will sleep in tents,
cook over the fire, battle across the plantation, and more! The cost
is $100 per camper, pre-registration required.-FULL!
September 27, 2008 (10am-4pm) Boy Scout Living
History Day Living history day set aside for boy scouts of all
ages. Scouts can learn fire starting, woodworking, natural plants and
medicines, cooking over a fire, and much more! Admission is $6 per
person, ages 4 and under free.
September 29, 2008 (11:30am) Latta Plantation Open Golf
Tournament Get in an afternoon of golf (shotgun start) at The
Point Lake and Golf Club in Mooresville, while supporting a fantastic cause!
All proceeds will go towards the preservation and restoration of two
historic cabins and other preservation projects here at the site.
Tournament entry fee includes all costs plus food (STEAK!). Cost is
$175 per player, or $150 each for a foursome.
October 11-12, 2008 (10am-4pm) 27th Annual Folklife
Festival and Craft Show Interpreters will demonstrate the folk way
of the past across the plantation. Demonstrations will include
open-hearth cooking, blacksmithing, gunsmithing, woodworking, spinning,
dyeing, weaving, and much more! Visitors can also do their Christmas
shopping early as they visit many period and modern craft vendors selling
baskets, pottery, jewelry, lace, gourds, Uncle Scott's Root Beer, yarn
crafts, and much more! Enjoy live music and eat a hot lunch with the
food vendor! Admission is $5 for adults, $5 for seniors (62+) and
students, ages 5 and under free.
October 17-18, 2008 at 8:00pm- Ghost Tales in the Dark
Have you ever wondered if Latta is haunted? Walk the house and
grounds by lantern light. Your guide will share real experiences by
staff members and volunteers, ghost hunters, and more. This will be a
unique opportunity to tour the plantation at night in small groups.
Admission is $12 per person.
October 24-25, 2008 (7-10pm)- Ghostwalk Take an
explosive walk around the plantation at night! Walk through a battle
between Civil War ghosts, see the surgeon at work in the hospital, witches
in the kitchen, and ghouls in the house, slave cabin, and garden.
Watch out for the crazy gold miner! Admission is $7 per person, ages 5
and under are free (but not recommended for ages 5 and under).
November 8, 2008 (10am-4pm) Charlotte Gold Rush
Learn about Charlotte's rich gold mining history, visit the miner's cabin,
pan for gold, and more! Regular admission applies ($6 for adults, $5
for seniors (62+) and students, ages 5 and under free).
November 15, 2008 (10am-4pm) Civil War Soldier for a
Day
This is a one day mini version of our summer Civil War
Children's Camps. Recruits will learn to drill and finish with a
battle. Supplies and equipment will be loaned out, and campers will
receive a Civil War kepi (hat) to keep. Pick your side- North or
South! The cost is $40 per camper, pre-registration is required.
November 28-29, 2008 A Plantation Christmas
Begin the Christmas season by stepping back into the 19th century.
Celebrate Christmas in the 1800s as you tour the plantation house, kitchen,
and slave cabin. Regular admission applies ($6 for adults, $5 for
seniors (62+) and students, ages 5 and under free).
December 6, 2008 A Candlelight Christmas
Celebrate an 1860s Christmas by candlelight. Walk the plantation
house, kitchen, cabin, and grounds by candlelight as Christmas is celebrated
as in days of old. The plantation will decorated for the season- one
of our most beautiful events! Admission is $6 per person, ages 5 and
under free.
December 10, 2008 A Homeschool Christmas
A Christmas celebration for homeschoolers of all ages, and their
families. Learn about 19th century Christmas traditions, make crafts,
smell baking in the kitchen, visit with a Victorian St. Nick. and more!
Admission is $5 per person, ages 4 and under free.
